Full Service Architectural Design
We provide start-to-finish professional services for the design of cabins, single-family houses, outbuildings, multigenerational houses and small multifamily and commercial buildings, including feasibility studies, code research, programming, conceptual or preliminary design, construction documents (“working drawings”) and construction administration. Joint Venture Collaboration
We are also happy to collaborate with other architects on larger multifamily residential and mixed-use buildings, especially where our expertise in green architecture and ultra-low energy buildings can be brought to bear when it is most effective, at the very start of design.
We offer a hybrid model of design/build: We collaborate with one of our recommended contractors or a contractor of your choosing from the very start of a project through to the end of construction and commissioning. We believe this offers a nice balance. As with the typical design/build approach you get additional budget certainty, a lower design fee, and the efficient synergy that comes from people who have done a lot of work together and trust each other implicitly. You also get the accountability and flexibility that comes from the long-standing and well-proven contractual arrangement of hiring a separate designer and builder.
Passive House Consulting
I am also able to offer Passive House consulting as a separate service to owners, architects or builders who would like to do a Passive House project. (Read more about the Passive House standard here.) I was the Passive House Consultant on Seattle’s first certified Passive House. Read more about how I worked with the architect to achieve this goal on this page. I consulted for Environmental Works on an affordable multifamily Passive House project on Orcas Island, and for Kellogg Architects on an affordable senior housing Passive House project in Phoenix, AZ. As an experienced advocate for ultra-low-energy and green building, I am available for talks and workshops with companies, organizations and municipalities interested in Passive House, the most rigorous energy standard in the world.
